The Urban enviroment in Herndon

First lets talk about what is urban environment?

Urban environment is the built surroundings in towns/places that make the place and possibly bring people together depending on the type of urban environment. Some examples being housing/neighborhood density, parks, open spaces, fields, how walk able the place is, and recreational facilities as well. by looking at the urban environment, we can learn more about what type of place towns, cities, and neighborhoods are. 

 

Urban environment that I saw in Herndon

during this walk, I spent some time in the Herndon community center which is at the center of Herndon, I picked to walk to this place first because it is like a place for all the local residence in the area to come and do activities in door and out door with the urban environment that it has

The Herndon community center itself is a Service but that's for another blog post, for now we will focus on the outside urban environment

The golf course is very popular daily, the grass is beautiful just to look at, and people in the area often use the golf course daily. this shows how this town isn't just all homes and roads, there are close by activities all around the town to do. 

  

 Not to far from the golf course is a tennis court which is also near a park, I also see people using this in sunny days, 

 

After you pass the park and tennis court, there is also a big soccer field to play football or just run around, I have used it multiple time with family 

 Background

Before, Herndon was a farm town, and as time passed it changed to a suburban community with many homes and buildings popping up, I believe that these places were built as a place for the Herndon town to come here and have something to do outside also because this is in the center of the town and community and all around this place are mostly houses. Urban enviorments like these are very important as the homes have small backyards and roads make it harder to have outdoor activities.

The median age of Herndon is also 35.5 which is lower than the U.S average and for me with a small backyard and front yard as do most of the houses here, places urban environments like these become important.

 

Town of herndon website has this to say about Urban enviorments

"Creative urban design that is mindful of Herndon's heritage and its position along an urbanizing regional corridor is paramount to achieving a vibrant community.  The Town has adopted and maintains urban design principles and guidelines to help manage the image and experience of living, working, or playing in the town" 

compared to other neighborhoods in different towns from experience of visiting close family and friends, Herndon is one of the only towns with this urban environment and I think this statement from them tells us why.

 Final thoughts

 Walking around and thinking about other towns and neighborhoods made me appreciate Herndons many urban environments, and how these activities connect the neighborhoods.

Firstly before I talk about herndon Population and migration, I want to talk about what population and migration means? Population is the whole amount of people that are living in a specified areain this case Herndon but, this could also be a country, county, city, region, even a continent. We can use population as a dynamic factor and also correlate them with demographics. Migration means the movement of people that go from one place to another place, mostly permanently. There is also immigration and emigration, and you can use push and pull factors to figure out why people are migrating.   The meaning of language and ethnicity  Language is not only a way of communicating, it is also used as a cultural trait that can create the landscape and how we interact. Language is what brings people together. Ethnicity is a group identity where people share cultural traits like ancestry and place of origin. Ethnicity can change the landscape like how neighborhoods look and religious buildings or monuments. So how does the Language in Herndon Look like? The language and landscape here is influenced by the diversity it has. 41% of residents were born outside of the United States. 56.1% of the population that are 5 years old and up speak a different language at home other than English. To break it down, 33.5% are Spanish speakers, 9.9% speak an Asian language, and 9.8% speak European languages.
