Services in Herndon! (Education and health)

 What does a Service represent in geography

Services means an institution and facilities that help the community, for example Education can have multiple services (libraries, schools) and another example being Health (hospitals, clinics, fitness centers). I also would like to include cultural events that specifically Herndon has as services like firework shows and festivals.  

Education Services in Herndon

in my experience of Herndon education is 

Herndon Middle school which I went to when I was younger, it was a very diverse school with alot of students and the building is big and it also has sports fields and gyms. 

 

Herndon High school is much bigger than the middle school, when attended this high school they had recently finished renovating the school. the school has many outside activities, football fields, library, and events almost every 2 months during school for students, this school is probably the main school in virginia as many different middle schools merge to this bigger high school.  

 I will note that many of my friends and close neighbors that attended this school did not have access to the school busses, so we and many others had to either drive there or walk there daily, I was one of the ones who had to walk, and it took around 15 minutes to walk to school which isnt too bad. this high school also had regular theaters for students to attend, marching and music bands, cooking class which was my favorite, and other fun activities. 

FiFnally, Dransevill Elementary was the school that I attended, is not too far from herndon high school, and a bus always came to pick me and my neighborhood friends up, I loved recces and there was also an after school activity called dragon runners where you try your best to run as far as you can which was fun although I was one of the last ones to finish mostly every time.

Health services in Herndons

 I know about the close by Inova care for Families or (ICF) 

in their words

" (ICF) provides comprehensive primary care services to patients who reflect the culturally diverse community we serve. We serve as medical homes for patients of all ages who qualify for Medicaid, FAMIS, Inova's Financial Assistance Program, or are uninsured." 

 anyone who qualifies for medicaid, FAMIS, ore uninsured can use this as a medical home. I think this facility is very important specifically to Herndon as many of the families here are immigrants and have migrated here

Fitness gyms in Herndon, There are many gyms, some small and some big, ones that are in/near Herndon is Planet fitness, the community center has pools, and a small gym. I think having these gyms is very important in Herndon as it can get very cold during winter and having a service where people can exercise indoors can help the health in herndon. 

Some Herndon Health Stats,  over 150,000 people in Fairfax county including Herndon participated in Medicaid and 18.6% of people under the age of 65 don't have healthcare, person under 5 years in Herndon is 7% and people under 18 years is 23%, I believe these stats show how important services like Inova care clinics for children is in Herndon.

 

Community services that bring Herndon together, The Herndon Festival was a big event in herndon and I loved this as I went with my whole family there many times, I always met friends from school there and other people from all different backgrounds athough I belive they stopped having these festivals after covid. the other big service event in Herndon is the 4th of july fireworks show that Herndon holds near the community center. thousand of people gather and there are concerts, food, everyone being together having fun waiting for the fireworks show to begin. its walking distance for everyone and police are there took make sure everything is safe. This is one event that still occurs regularly every year.

 Herndon lives in fairfax county which is one of the very wealthy counties and it invests the money they gain in some events and services for schools, education, health, and events for the community and you can see that in the environment.

  The meaning of language and ethnicity  Language is not only a way of communicating, it is also used as a cultural trait that can create the landscape and how we interact. Language is what brings people together. Ethnicity is a group identity where people share cultural traits like ancestry and place of origin.
